about Yaerin Kweon (they/them)

That self-connection shared is a measure of the joy which I know myself to be capable of feeling, a reminder of my capacity for feeling.

And that deep and irreplaceable knowledge of my capacity for joy comes to demand from all of my life that it be lived within the knowledge that such satisfaction is possible…

— Audre Lorde, Uses of the Erotic

I am a biologically-inspired, creative human from the liminal space between South Korea and the US in the continuous process of better knowing myself.

Having been blessed with a sensitive spirit and a tumultuously challenging conscious experience, I have found great meaning in transmuting the pain of the human experience into creative expression.

I am the creator of SNAKESKIN, which is my soul-led brand inspired by the cyclical process of shedding skin that I have come to feel empowered by.

My formal artistic practice explores themes such as
queer femininity, Asian cultural identity,
addressing institutional systems,
and the nondual spiritual tradition.

I work in mediums encompassing painting, drawing, design, animation, digital illustration, video, language, and more.

I carry a scientific background
and have previously worked in the Cullen Lab in the departments of neurosurgery
and bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania,
as well as in the Lee Lab at the University of Pennsylvania, having assisted in investigating the molecular mechanisms of the corneal epithelial wound healing process.

I graduated summa cum laude
from the University of Pennsylvania in 2022 double majoring in Biology with honors and Fine Arts.
