my creative practice arises from my spiritual practice.

in my process of making, I excavate the dark watery depths of my inner ecosystem
in order to transmute pain into creative expression
using tools such as compassionate self-inquiry, mindfulness, and breath.

within the interconnected web of life,
which encompasses both the sublime beauty of the natural world
and the societal systems that seek to perpetuate oppressive exploitation,
I carve my own path in which creative expression itself
becomes my native function as a conscious being -
just as bees make honey
and spiders spin webs.

though institutions and their consequences are devastatingly real,
there exists a valuable exercise in finding ways to embody freedom
within the scope of my internal world.

I operate on the principle that I must honor myself exactly as who I am and where I am today,
to not smother my own voice within my own personal narrative.

this becomes a radical act in a consensus reality
that functionally depends on censoring intersectionally marginalized perspectives.

as Carol Hanisch writes - the personal is political.

in such a spirit, I choose to create works reflective of a free expression from within,
investigating ineffable communion with the divine.
